As governor, Bill will work to improve health and reduce healthcare costs by continuing to reform TennCare and finding innovative solutions for controlling costs for all Tennesseans. To control TennCare costs, Bill will expand the Office of the Inspector General, which to date has saved the state over $165 million by prosecuting cases of TennCare fraud and abuse. Bill will also seek to reduce healthcare costs for all Tennesseans by expanding e-Health initiatives, ensuring every child has access to the vaccinations and preventive care they need, and creating public-private partnerships to attack some of the biggest drivers of healthcare costs: type II diabetes, childhood obesity, and hypertension. Bill will also seek to reduce frivolous lawsuits by pushing for Tennessee to join the over thirty other states who have placed a monetary limit on malpractice lawsuits. Bill believes Tennessee must continue to maintain the autonomy of its state healthcare programs. As a result, Bill will oppose any unfunded mandates that result from the passage of federal healthcare legislation.
